servant from διάκω diakō (obsolete, to run on errands); an attendant, that is, (generally) a waiter (at table or in other menial duties); specifically a Christian teacher and pastor (technically a deacon or deaconess): – deacon, minister, servant.
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21 KJV overcome to subdue (literally or figuratively): – conquer, overcome, prevail, get the victory. Pro 16:32; Luk 6:27-30; 1Pe 3:9.
evil: worthless (intrinsically such; whereas G4190 properly refers to effects), that is, (subjectively) depraved, or (objectively) injurious: – bad, evil, harm, ill, noisome, wicked. *G4190: hurtful, that is, evil (properly in effect or influence, and thus differing from G2556, which refers rather to essential character, as well as from G4550, which indicates degeneracy from original virtue); figuratively calamitous; also (passively) ill, that is, diseased; but especially (morally) culpable, that is, derelict, vicious, facinorous; neuter (singular) mischief, malice, or (plural) guilt; masculine (singular) the devil, or (plural) sinners: – bad, evil, grievous, harm, lewd, malicious, wicked (-ness). See also G4191.
“good” (in any sense, often as noun): – benefit, good (-s, things), well. Of uncertain affinity; properly beautiful, but chiefly (figuratively) good (literally or morally), that is, valuable or virtuous (for appearance or use, and thus distinguished from G18, which is properly intrinsic): – X better, fair, good (-ly), honest, meet, well, worthy.
